Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for construction products have become increasingly prominent. With the entry into force of the revised EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR-2024), it will become mandatory for certain products to provide information on environmental impact indicators.

An EPD is a document that contains objective, comparable information, verified by a third party, on the environmental performance of products and services. The relevant European standard, EN 15804:2012+A2:2019, determines 13 mandatory core environmental impact indicators, with the option to include 6 additional reporting categories related to human health and land use.

In the construction sector, EPD are used to provide information on products and services, facilitating a Whole-Building Life Cycle Assessment (WBLCA).

The EU Construction Products Regulation published in 2024 (CPR-2024), regulates that for construction products for which a harmonised technical specification exists (usually a harmonised EN standard), certain environmental impact indicators must be provided. This obligation will be introduced in steps, starting with the Global Warming Potential (GWP).

This topic will be covered in a lecture supported by slides, followed by a question-and-answer session.
